The 2023 Mercedes-Benz T-Class is a smooth-looking minivan that packs luxury and versatility.
The all-new T-Class is the latest MPV from Mercedes-Benz. With roots from its French sibling Renault Kangoo and Mercedes A-Class, the T-Class makes up for a very cool MPV that will compete with the likes of the already popular Volkswagen Caddy, Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo, and Fiat Doblo - Italian for Ram ProMaster City.
The new T-Class is based on the outgoing Mercedes-Benz Citan which underpinned a completely rebadged Renault Kangoo. Available in two petrol or two diesel engines buyers can also choose from a base model Style trim and a higher-up Progressive trim.
A fully electric version of the T-Class is set to come later. The base price for the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class will be €30,000 (~$32,000) while the Progressive trim adds an extra €10,000 ($10500) to the bill. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new for the Mercedes-Benz T-Class.

Mercedes has already been in the game for multipurpose vehicles, although its outgoing Citan didn’t offer much more than a rebadged and underpowered Renault powertrain. The new T-Class looks more premium than the outgoing Citan, although it has inherited a lot of those details from the Citan, Mercedes has done a meticulous job to blend in A-Class hatchback interior styling and technology.
A new range of colors is available with the T-Class and rides on standard with 16-inch steel or alloy wheels. 17-inch alloy wheels are also available with the Progressive trim. The T-Class blends a compact exterior design with a huge interior room.
There will be 2 wheelbases available with the T-Class, the long-wheelbase model will come out soon shortly, and it will compete directly with the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi. The short-wheelbase model will accommodate 5 and the long-wheelbase model will come as a 7-seater. The short wheelbase T-Class gets 18.2 cubic feet of luggage space which can be extended when folding down the second-row seats.
The refreshed interior now gets the MBUX infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration, a multifunction steering wheel, keyless start, and an updated instrument cluster as standard. Depending on the trim level the all-new T-Class can also be optioned with ambient lighting with up to eight colors.

The T-Class will carry engines from the Mercedes-Renault partnership. There will be 2 available four-cylinder petrol engines and 2 four-cylinder diesel engines. The T160 gets a 1.3-liter petrol engine that makes 100 horsepower. Buyers can also opt for a more powerful T180 which gets 130 horsepower.
The diesel units are offered in two guises of a 1.5-liter engine. The T160d brings 95 horsepower on board while the more powerful T180d gets 115 horses. Both diesel and petrol engines come paired with a 6-speed manual as standard while a 7-speed dual-clutch auto is optional.
To sum it all up, the new T-Class is a more luxurious Citan, and it will serve best in busy European cities. We believe that Mercedes would be a success in North America with their T-Class but given the power output of the Renault engines, it’s safe to say North America better waits for the fully electric T-Class.
